the journey of our ginger

“The Journey of Ginger: From Rhizomes to Harvest and Beyond” 1. The Foundation of GrowthThe journey begins with careful preparation. Every ginger rhizome is hand-selected, nurtured, and given the perfect start. This is where it all begins—a commitment to excellence rooted in the soil. 2. A Promise Takes RootThe first signs of life emerge as delicate sprouts break through the surface. These young shoots represent hope, vitality, and the beginning of something extraordinary. 3. Nurturing the GrowthUnder the watchful care of our team, the ginger plants thrive. Every stage is guided by dedication and respect for the land, ensuring strong, healthy growth. This is where nature and nurturing meet. 4. Harvest: The Fruit of LaborThe culmination of months of hard work—ginger harvested at its peak, full of flavor and vibrancy. It’s a celebration of patience, perseverance, and partnership with the earth. 5. Innovation for the FutureBeyond the fields, our commitment doesn’t end. Through research and development, we strive to enhance quality, optimize production, and ensure sustainability. Every harvest informs the next, creating a cycle of continuous improvement.
This cycle represents more than farming; it’s a testament to growth, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence. Each stage tells a story, and together, they form a journey worth celebrating—a journey that we are proud to share with you.

news for 2024

Time flies so fast. Another year gone and already into the second month in 2024. We are really excited about the new year. Our addition of new plants, turmeric and galangal, are growing. Because we have a short growing season, we plant them in December. Dave has been busy with his woodworking over the winter and has decided to offer some of his creations for sale this year. Check out his woodworking page.
This year, we are selling our ginger, turmeric and galangal starter plants at two events. We will be at Salt Spring Seedy Saturday and Duncan Seedy Sunday. The plants are just over 2 months old. I will be bringing some of Dave’s woodwork to show off. Also, have some neat gardening t-shirts. Hope to see you there.

October news

OUR GINGER IS READY! Our ginger will be available at our farm stand on October 10th. We also have drop off days for Sidney and Duncan. You can preorder through our store, We are so excited to offer our ginger products that we have perfected over the winter. The samples we have tested on clients have all come back favourable.

news for 2023

The ginger we planted in December is growing better this year and will be moving to its new greenhouse. Over the winter, we will be perfecting our ginger products to offer for sale. We will be offering vegetable starter plants in spring. A limited supply of ginger plants will be offered. Contact us if you would like us to send you an email when available. Due to the Avian flu detected on Salt Spring, we have decided not to have any chickens this year. Our Angus/Wagyu cattle will continue enjoying the rotational grazing. We will offer beef next year. We have Angus/Wagyu cattle for sale.

ginger

The ginger root we sell still has the stock and leaves attached. It is very tender and juicy with a paper thin skin unlike mature ginger that is dry and woody and tough brown skin. The skin on young ginger is edible and does not required peeling. The taste of young ginger is milder. You can use the stock and leaves for cooking and teas. Young ginger contains about twice as many polyphenols and has two to three times more antioxidation activity that the mature ginger found in most grocery stores. Ginger found in stores may have been radiated and/or has a retardant to stop it from growing on its long journey here.
