Microscopic Biology Snapshot Services For Soil, Compost, worm castings & Compost Teas
Your soil holds more than nutrients — it holds life. Our Microscopic Biology Snapshot services go beyond traditional soil testing to uncover the microbial ecosystem that drives plant health, nutrient availability, and soil structure.
What We AnalyzeWith our Standard Snapshot, we use microscopy to identify and assess: • Bacteria • Fungi • Protozoa • Nematodes (if present) • Microbial activity level • Soil structure indicatorsThis gives you a real-time view of the living biology in your soil, compost, or tea — and what it means for plant performance.
Snapshot PLUS – Deeper Biological Insights For those who want the full picture, Snapshot PLUS includes everything in the standard service, plus: • ✅ Bacterial vs. Fungal Ratios (crucial for plant-specific environments) • ✅ Soil pH • ✅ NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) Levels • ✅ Aerobic vs. Anaerobic activity • ✅ Detection of harmful or imbalanced microbesThis enhanced report helps growers make data-backed decisions on amendments, planting strategies, and problem-solving.
Why Biology Matters More Than You ThinkAll soils have nutrients — but plants can only absorb them if the right biology is present to convert and transport them. Without microbes, nutrients stay locked in the soil and unavailable.
Healthy microbial life: • Frees up nutrients for plants • Protects against disease and harmful pathogens • Builds soil structure to improve water retention, oxygenation, and root growth
Biological activity forms stable aggregates that help soil: • Hold water longer • Resist erosion • Support deep root development • Encourage long-term fertility without chemical overload Good Soil Structure = Resilient Growth This snapshot provides a visual overview of what is present in your soil at the time of observation.
You will receive: • Microscope photos • A clear, plain-language summary explaining what’s present, what may be limited, and what that suggests biologically
This service does not provide lab diagnostics, nutrient prescriptions.
Follow-Up Soil Biology Snapshot ( 6 to 10 weeks later)Many clients choose a follow-up snapshot to observe how soil biology changes over time after management practices or amendments.
Follow-ups allow for: • Visual comparison • Learning how soil responds • Building confidence through observation rather than guesswork You can mail your sample directly to us, or if you’re local, we may be able to arrange a pick-up depending on your location. We’ll also be attending select Seedy Saturdays and local markets across Vancouver Island throughout the year — a great opportunity to drop off your sample in person, ask questions, and learn more about soil biology!

worm castings
Nutrient-rich. Microbe-packed. Our farm-made worm castings are more than just compost — they’re a powerful, living soil amendment full of beneficial microbes, enzymes, and slow-release nutrients that plants love. Produced by our healthy red wigglers in a carefully managed system, these castings are rich in humus, well-balanced, and biologically active.
Why Use Worm Castings? • Feeds Soil Biology: Castings are loaded with beneficial bacteria and fungi that help unlock nutrients and build healthy soil structure. • Boosts Plant Health: The natural hormones and enzymes in castings improve root development, resilience, and growth. • Won’t Burn Plants: Unlike synthetic fertilizers or hot compost, castings are gentle and safe for seeds, seedlings, and established plants. • Retains Moisture: High humus content improves water retention, reducing the need to water as often. • Supports Regenerative Practices: Worm castings work with nature, not against it — improving soil over time rather than depleting it.
Biology You Can See. All of our castings are tested under the microscope to ensure they’re teeming with life — the good kind. This means you’re not just feeding your plants — you’re feeding the entire soil food web.Perfect for gardens, pots, seed starting, top-dressing, or making compost teas..FOR THE BEST RESULTS USE IMMEDIATELY!

compost teaS
Brew life into your soil. Our compost teas are living liquid fertilizers, brewed with care to extract and multiply beneficial microbes from high-quality compost and worm castings. These teas deliver a concentrated dose of biological life directly to your soil or plants — helping you grow healthier, more resilient gardens without synthetic inputs.
Why Use Compost Tea? • Feeds the Soil Food Web: Teas introduce and expand populations of beneficial microbes — like bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes — that drive nutrient cycling and disease suppression. • Improves Nutrient Availability: Microbes in the tea help unlock minerals already in your soil, making them available to plants in forms they can use. • Enhances Root Health: A strong microbial presence around roots (the rhizosphere) supports vigorous growth and better water absorption. • Reduces Dependence on Chemicals: By improving soil biology, compost teas reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides. • Safe & Natural: Gentle on plants, safe for the environment, and a core tool in regenerative agriculture.
Microbially Active & Tested
We brew our teas using aerated systems, high-quality inputs, and microscope testing to ensure biological richness. That means you’re applying real biology, not just nutrients.Use as a soil drench or foliar spray for vegetables, flowers, fruit trees, lawns, or compost. THIS CONTAINS LIVE MICROORGANISMS AND SHOULD BE USED THE SAME DAY OR DISCARDED AFTER 24 HOURS.

wool pellets
Natural, slow-release soil boosters — made from 100% raw sheep wool. Our wool pellets are a sustainable and regenerative soil amendment made from locally sourced, unprocessed sheep wool. When added to your soil or potting mix, they slowly release nutrients, retain moisture, and support root growth — all while reducing waste and closing local loops.
Why Use Wool Pellets? • Slow-Release Nitrogen: As wool breaks down naturally over time, it provides a long-lasting source of nitrogen — essential for leafy green growth. • Moisture Retention: Wool can hold up to 3x its weight in water, helping your soil stay hydrated longer and reducing watering needs. • Soil Aeration & Structure: As pellets expand, they create air pockets in the soil, improving oxygen flow to roots. • Root Growth Stimulator: The texture and nutrients encourage stronger, deeper root development. • Natural & Renewable: Made from raw wool that would otherwise go to waste — completely biodegradable and safe for all plants.
How to UseMix into garden beds, containers, or potting soil. Great for vegetables, flowers, houseplants, and seedlings. Also ideal for moisture-sensitive areas or dry climates.
These pellets are a great addition to living soil systems, working alongside your compost teas, castings, and microbial inputs to build healthier soil over time.

red wiggler worms
Nature’s soil engineers — right at work in your compost or garden. Our red wiggler worms (Eisenia fetida) are powerful little workers that transform food scraps, organic matter, and compost into microbe-rich castings — one of the most valuable amendments for living soil systems. Whether you’re managing a worm bin, compost pile, or adding them directly to garden beds, these worms help build soil health from the ground up. Why Raise or Use Composting Worms? • Produce Nutrient-Dense Castings: Worms turn waste into worm castings — full of beneficial microbes, humus, and plant-available nutrients. • Break Down Organic Matter Faster: They speed up composting naturally, reducing smell and helping balance carbon and nitrogen. • Boost Soil Biology: Worms stimulate microbial activity, improving the soil food web and supporting plant health. • Improve Soil Structure: Their movement aerates the soil, creating natural channels for water and roots to move freely. • Great for Gardeners & Educators: Worms are low-maintenance, productive, and an awesome way to teach about soil ecology.
Farm-Raised & Biology-Tested
Our red wigglers are raised on a healthy, balanced diet and are regularly tested to ensure their castings are biologically active and safe for use in regenerative systems.Use in vermicomposting bins, add to garden beds, or introduce into compost piles to accelerate your path to living soil.
